| NEW LISTING! | LI-58 Rare Regina 27" Autochanger In Circassian Walnut Case With Dragon Carvings. All Regina 27" changers are neat and desirable, with their loud and deep sound and fascinating autochange mechanisms. However to find one in the rare Circassian Walnut complete with solid lower panel, a true "home" model for an upscale customer, is a real treat. We have only had one of these before, and this may be that very machine for all we can tell. This one is in nice original condition except for some damage to the combs - the upper comb has a 5 tooth section of comb replaced at the bass end and the lower comb has an 8 tooth section replaced (this damage undoubtedly occurred due to the negligence of a restorer who set the bedplate down on a table, causing the leads to push up on the teeth and break them) - this has been repaired at some point in the past. Possibly refinished, the finish on the ledge in front and on the lower left side has mars, and there is an expansion crack on the lower left side of the case. While the music box has a gallery it is a reproduction as this late model never came with a gallery. 36" wide, 22" deep, 63 ½" high (without gallery). A truly rare opportunity. With 12 discs. $24,000. | |
| IL-48 Late Model Regina Coin-Operated 27" Autochanger Style 34 in Oak. This is a very late example, in fact at serial number 65885 it is probably from 1908 and only 31 short of the "end of the (production) line" according to Bowers. This example is in exceptionally fine original condition and has some unusual features - first, it has the lever lift mechanism which is much more reliable than the much more commonly found strap lift; second it has a zither which I don't recall seeing on a 27" changer before (the lever to turn this effect off and on, which extends through the case, describes it as a "banjo" - the indicator is broken); third it has a novel approach to the center shelf which eliminates the commonly found hinges; and fourth (now we're getting really picky) it has very unusual little things like how the upper doors are fastened, a locking coin box (with original lock) rather than the traditional drawer, a cover over the upper governor - things only an obsessively involved music box specialist would notice and note, but fascinating to encounter when you have been through as many autochangers as we have. But on to the most important thing - the SOUND - really lovely, full, rich, lots of base, clearly not much use/wear, one of the best we have had, at least a "9". Lovely original oak finish, beautiful combs, piano style back. Exceptional condition and the height of Regina's development for this model. $23,250. [HOLD - DO] | ||
| MW-28 Mira 15 ½” Disc Console Music Box in Rare Empire Style Console Case. After over 35 years in the business it is unusual for us to come across something we haven’t seen before, but this is one! A lovely Mira 15 ½” disc double comb console music box distributed by Lyon & Healy in Chicago. But this one is in an Empire or Colonial Revival style case in mahogany, very unusual and very handsome. The mechanism has been restored and has a truly wonderful sound, probably the best I have ever heard in a 15 ½” Mira and the equal of most 18 ½” disc Mira music boxes. The case has been stripped in the past, it has since been cleaned and a light finish put on it and is acceptable but it should have a deep piano finish applied. A wonderful sounding Mira in a rare case, only $7350 with twelve discs. [SOLD – JB] | ||
| Outstanding 20 ¾” Disc Reginaphone with External Nickel Plated Horn and Matching Base Cabinet Wow, what a beautiful combination music box and phonograph! This is the scarce 20 ¾” disc Regina model music box, with the later short bedplate development, double combs of course, and with the most attractive serpentine case with cupola lid, serial number 1390158. Beautiful sound, excellent bass, this is one of the very best 20 ¾” Reginas I have ever heard. Add to that it is a Reginaphone, with all its original phonograph parts, and it has a very nice condition nickel plated petal type horn (see Bowers Encyclopedia page 198). In addition it has a matching base cabinet with serpentine top made for the Reginaphone model – with sections for music box discs and for phonograph records as well as a drawer to hold the phonograph arm (original dividers replaced, original shelves missing). To top it off there is an original Regina illustrated catalog (worth $250 by itself), an original oiling instruction sheet, and the original key marked “Mom’s Music Box”! It just doesn’t get any better! The 20 ¾” Regina has long been considered the best size in terms of arrangements and sound, it is regrettable that it is by far the scarcest of all of the larger Regina sizes. All original, the mechanism has been fully restored and sounds great, the case has some alligatoring but is very presentable, with 12 discs. $10,500. [HOLD HK] | ||
| FL-127 Imperial Symphonion Double Comb 13 7/16" Disc Mahogany Music Box. This example has the unusual dimple drive, and has the extremely decorative Imperial Symphonion discs. Very nice condition. Plays great, quite loud, has had a few expertly replaced teeth in one comb. Mahogany case has a very nice finish except for the top square panel where the finish is thin or stripped. Interior has neat original paperwork including disc instructions! Wonderful example with 12 discs (more discs are available). $2650. [SOLD - HH] | ||

NJ-11 Regina 27" Disc Autochanger Very nice all original example of this very popular style and size Regina music box. The largest true music box that Regina made, with fine sound and the fascinating autochanger mechanism. Nice oak case showing some wear and age. Piano style sounding board back. Manual stop start, might have been converted from coin operation at one time as there is a place in the side for a coin slide but no evidence of a coin mechanism. Purchased from a family in New Jersey. Has had a very light going over and is working and playing very well. With 12 discs (more are available). $22,500. |

| OR-2117 Symphonion 19 1/8" Disc Upright Double Comb Music Box. Attractive upright disc music box from Symphonion, in the very scarce 19 1/8" size. Coin operated. Plays well. Has had one tooth expertly replaced. Minor worm damage near the top of the case. This probably sat on a matching base at one time, to properly operate it as it is it will need some short legs and a drawer to catch the coins. A bargain for a scarce upright, leaving some room to finish it off nicely. $5,650. | ||

DT-1 Rare Coin Operated Imperial Symphonion
Double Comb Mahogany Music Box With 20" Discs. Imperial
Symphonion was the U.S. brand and was a very late development
for Symphonion of Germany. While this name is seen in smaller
sizes, it is very unusual to see an Imperial Symphonion in this
large 20" size. We have only seen three or four of these (two of
which are on this list!) and this is the only coin operated
model we have ever seen. Playing very nicely, beautiful combs
and tone. Missing the two inner boards, which we plan on having
replaced. Case is about 27" wide, 22" deep, 12 ½"
high. With four discs - this example uses the hole drive whereas
TJ-1 uses the dimple drive. $6000. |
||
| TJ-1 Rare Imperial Symphonion Double Comb Music Box with 20" discs. Yes, another "rare" Imperial Symphonion. How can we say these are rare and still have two in stock at the same time? Well, first, we have never had one before in our 35 years of dealing in antique mechanical music, and second, we had to search out this example and buy it at a substantial price in order to get a few discs to go with DT-1 (which came with only one disc) - we have known about this Symphonion for 4 - 5 years but couldn't justify the purchase price before. This example is in exceptional restored condition, including a beautiful refinishing of the lovely oak case. The combs have some pitting however these are thick combs and it has had no effect on the tuning or the quality of sound. Very nice sounding. With twelve discs. $6000. | ||
| RA-1 Regina 20 ¾" Disc Autochanger Upright Music Box. Nice fully restored (mechanically) all original example of by far the scarcest size Regina autochanger. Sounds great and the timing is excellent, resulting in very crisp arrangements. All 20 ¾" disc Regina music boxes are scarce, particularly in the autochangers - this is a real shame since they tend to have the best arrangements and are the most musical of all of the Reginas. This example has had a full mechanical restoration and looks like new inside, the case has been cleaned and attended to but the finish remains a little rough. There is a gallery which came from another 20 ¾" changer which is probably original but we're not sure, but it sure looks nice. Has the most desirable piano sounding board back. One really neat thing is that it still has its original etched lower glass panel, which is usually missing or replaced (Regina was rather foolish to have put a glass panel down where it would get easily kicked or bumped in a commercial environment) - I don't know if it will come out in the photo but it is beautiful. Coin operated. New lithograph. There is some veneer missing on the left end of the center shelf. With 12 discs. Ready to go! $23,500. | ||
| SR-1 Regina 27” Disc Autochanger in Mahogany Carved Dragon Case. This lovely Regina, the largest automatic changer disc music box that Regina made, is in the most desirable case with the carved dragons on the upper front doors. It also has the ribbed piano style sounding board in back. These late models, with the highly decorative carvings and the piano style back have always been our favorites in the Regina autochangers. This is a very nice example, fine combs, plays well, getting much harder to find. This is a late model (serial number 65753, made around 1905) with the very reliable lever lift mechanism. All original. Case is 66 ¼” high, 37 ¾” wide, 24” deep. Veneer chipping around bottom edges of case. Serial number 65753. With twelve discs. $23,500. [SOLD] | ||

VA-187 Mira 18 1/2" Disc Mahogany Console. One of our most favorite disc music boxes, the 18 =" double comb Miras have always held a very high spot in any listing of the very best disc boxes made. Full, rich, deep and clear sound - musically among the best of these wonderful models. The mechanism has been fully restored and is simply wonderful. The case is another story, having had a pretty rough life. It has been cleaned and polished but it would be helped a lot with a refinishing, and has some mars and digs in it. In addition, at some point there was some damage to the back and a supplemental thin board was attached and the finish fairly closely matched so as to not be noticeable without looking for it, since it is on the back. The sound trumps all, and this is a fabulous sounding Mira. A bargain because the case could use some more TLC. $10,500. [SOLD]

FD-177 Oak
Regina 20 ¾” Disc Automatic Changer. Lovely example of the
rarest of the automatic changer sizes, especially difficult to
find in Oak – this is the first oak one we can remember having
in a very long time. The 20 ¾” Regina is generally considered to
have the best arrangements – what a pity that they are so
difficult to find. This example was restored quite some time ago
and is in a beautiful oak case, it has recently had a very light
cleaning and adjusting to the combs and it sound very very nice
(one broken tooth, the far left lower bass tooth). Sounds and
works wonderful. See Bowers Encyclopedia page 200 upper center
of page, only this one has the rounded corners and a more
pleasant (less harsh or hard) appearance. Case looks
exceptionally attractive, only drawbacks are replacement
finials, a half dollar size hole in the right side designed to
have coins come out (part of coin chute is missing), the sides
of the case were clean cut and sort of poorly repaired (we
intend to have this properly repaired, if we get around to that
then the price of the music box will go up accordingly, you can
see the split/cut in one of the side photos), and there was some
repair done to the inside bottom of the case. Coin operated, but
the coin chute is missing so the coins fall to the floor of the
music box. Really wonderful and beautiful example, priced below
market until we have some minor further case work done. $21,000
with twelve discs.

KS-57 Stella 17 ¼” Disc Double Comb With

the mahogany case is nice with the exception of some poorly
repaired cracks in the lid. It runs fine. The drawer knobs have
been replaced. Has a nice carved/pressed front. With six discs.

Capital Cuff Box Style A. Oak, with four cuffs. Recently had a light mechanical restoration so that it plays great, however the mechanism should be polished. The lid picture has slight damage, including a small hole. The case is good but the finish is a little thin in places. These odd transitional style music boxes are very difficult to find, having been made in quite small quantities (as is evidenced by the low serial numbers). With five cuffs. PRICE REDUCED TO $3400

OZ-60 Scarce Regina 15 ½” Automatic Changer In “Commercial Style” Case, Needs Repair. Regina 15 ½” automatic changer, mahogany, flat front, metal legs, serial number 3500008. This is the scarce “Commercial Style” case with flat front and cast iron legs, see Bowers Encyclopedia, page 194, lower far left,, “Corona 36 Flat”. Incomplete mechanism with some rust on combs and three broken teeth, missing dampers. Missing lifting levers, tracks for disc rack, original disc rollers and brackets, coin mechanism and coin slide, tune selector knob, lithograph. Has piano back.
